Journey
Some voices make you stop mid-breath; Waje’s is one of them. Born Aituaje Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe on September 1, 1980, in Akure, Ondo State, she grew up in Benin City, Edo State, where her singing in church choirs hinted at the powerhouse she would become.
Waje earned a degree in social work from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Life wasn’t always smooth: she navigated early hardship, including single motherhood, while quietly honing her craft. Her determination and vocal talent caught attention early, eventually leading her to national recognition.
Her breakthrough came in 2008, when she featured on P-Square’s hit “Do Me,” showcasing a soulful, multi-octave range. Collaborations with artists such as The Guy (Fka M.I. Abaga) and Banky W on tracks like “One Naira” and “Thief My Kele” cemented her place in Nigeria’s music scene. Waje has also contributed to theme songs for Big Brother Africa, blending mainstream exposure with her signature vocal depth.
In 2013, she released her debut album, "Words Aren’t Just Enough (W.A.J.E)," featuring hits like “I Wish” and “Oko Mi,” blending Afro-pop, R&B, jazz, and highlife. Subsequent projects: "Red Velvet" (2018), "Heart Season" (2021), and "Waje 2.0" (2022) explore maturity, emotional depth, and genre versatility.
Beyond music, Waje has acted in films such as Tunnel (2014) and She Is (2018) and served as a coach on The Voice Nigeria, mentoring emerging talent. Her foundation, Waje Safe House, supports vulnerable communities and education.
