Show notes

Kenya Airways began in 1977 as a government decree, created because East African Airways had collapsed and nothing else existed. It was privatized in 1996 and became the first African flag carrier sold to private investors. Then came expansion, losses, and a debt swap that handed a third of the company to its own bankers. Fifty years on, the state is still looking for a buyer.
