Raised in Festac Town, Lagos, Oludemilade Martin Alejo, better known as Ycee, found his way into music while still in secondary school, writing songs before he had any idea how far they would take him. Born in 1993, the Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter later studied Marine Biology at the University of Lagos. By 2011, he was recording music more seriously, and in 2012, he began his professional journey with Tinny Entertainment.
After briefly stepping away from music to focus on university, Ycee returned in 2015 with “Condo,” featuring Patoranking. The record brought him wider attention and earned nominations at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He followed it with “Jagaban,” a career-changing single whose success led to a remix with Olamide. “Omo Alhaji” further strengthened his presence in Nigeria’s mainstream music scene.
His rise brought several industry recognitions, including Rookie of the Year at The Headies and nominations at the All Africa Music Awards and MTV Africa Music Awards. In 2016, he entered a deal with Sony Music Entertainment before releasing his debut EP, "The First Wave," in 2017. The project produced “Juice,” featuring Maleek Berry, one of his biggest records, alongside “Link Up” with Reekado Banks.
Ycee reached another career milestone in 2018 when he sold out a headline performance at O2 Academy Islington in London. That year, he also joined Bella Alubo for the collaborative EP "Late Night Vibrations".
Following his departure from Tinny Entertainment, Ycee launched his independent imprint, Ain’t Nobody Badder Than (ANBT), in 2019. His debut studio album, "Ycee vs Zaheer", arrived that November, featuring Davido, Niniola, Phyno, Ms Banks, and Dapo Tuburna. He later released "Love Drunk" in 2021, exploring a more melodic and relationship-focused direction.
Across his career, Ycee has worked with established and emerging musicians, often extending his reach through guest appearances while helping newer artists gain wider exposure. His catalogue reflects a rapper comfortable moving between hip-hop, Afropop and R&B while retaining the confident delivery that first introduced him to Nigerian audiences.
