Journey
Martijn Gerard Garritsen, known as Martin Garrix, is a Dutch DJ, producer, songwriter, and label founder whose career has made him one of the most prominent figures in contemporary electronic dance music. Born on May 14, 1996, in Amstelveen, Netherlands, Garrix became interested in electronic music after watching Tiësto perform at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He began producing music as a teenager and later signed with Spinnin' Records, where his 2013 single “Animals” became an international breakthrough.
Garrix developed a sound rooted in progressive house, big room house, electro house, future bass, and melodic electronic music. His major recordings include “Wizard,” “In the Name of Love” with Bebe Rexha, “Scared to Be Lonely” with Dua Lipa, “There for You” with Troye Sivan, “So Far Away” with David Guetta, Jamie Scott, and Romy, “High on Life” with Bonn, “Ocean” with Khalid, and “Summer Days” with Macklemore and Patrick Stump.
In 2016, Garrix founded STMPD RCRDS, creating an independent platform for his own music and other electronic artists. He later separated from Spinnin' Records and continued developing his catalog through his own label. His role as a label head has become an important part of his career, allowing him to support emerging producers while maintaining greater control over his releases.
Garrix has also explored music outside his main solo identity. Alongside Maejor, he developed the electronic and hip-hop project AREA21, which released the album “Greatest Hits Vol. 1” in 2021. His first studio album under the Martin Garrix name, “Sentio,” followed in 2022 and featured collaborations with artists including Bono and The Edge, Khalid, Shaun Farrugia, DubVision, and Matisse & Sadko.
His international profile has been strengthened by performances at major festivals and events, including Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival. Garrix has repeatedly ranked among the world's leading DJs and won DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll four consecutive times from 2016 through 2019.
Beyond recording and performance, Garrix has supported charitable initiatives, including work associated with War Child. Through his music, international performances, collaborations, label, and work with other artists, he has developed a career that extends well beyond his early success with “Animals,” establishing him as an influential figure in global electronic music.
