Josephine Churemi Efe Otiko, known artistically as Churemi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer with an unmistakable voice and a heart for storytelling. Born on April 28 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, she has captivated audiences with her ability to fuse multiple genres, including soul, reggae, Afropop, smooth jazz, classical, and blues.
Churemi’s musical journey began at the tender age of 8 when she started composing songs about faith, dreams, and the human experience. From singing in her church and school choirs to winning local competitions, her passion for music was undeniable. Her breakthrough moment came in 2015 when she won the Rivers State Talent Competition in both the music and general categories. This victory propelled her into the spotlight, earning her recognition as the Youth Alive Ambassador for Winner’s Chapel in Rivers State. Three years later, she cemented her status as a formidable talent by winning the Rebrand Competition in both categories, securing her role as the Rebrand Ambassador in 2018.
Beyond her music, Churemi is deeply committed to social impact. A passionate girl-child advocate, she established an NGO dedicated to empowering and educating young girls to pursue leadership roles in society.
