In 1914, as Europe plunged into war, South Africa faced its own internal crisis. Boer generals who had fought the British just a dozen years earlier now rose against their own government, protesting plans to invade German South-West Africa. This episode tells the story of the Afrikaner Rebellion of 1914–15: the fiery rhetoric of Siener van Rensburg, the tragic figure of Koos de la Rey, the military campaign led by Manie Maritz, and the government's response under Louis Botha and Jan Smuts.
