Harold Rangakane Matlhaku proffessionally known as Speedy, born January 28 1979, is a prominent South African musician with a career spanning more than twenty years.
He first gained prominence in the mid-1990s as a founding member of Bongo Maffin, a group widely recognized for shaping the country’s urban music scene. With vibrant rhythms and lyrics that resonated deeply with audiences, the group became one of South Africa’s most influential musical collectives.
After establishing himself with Bongo Maffin, Speedy embarked on a solo career that allowed him to showcase his personal style and creativity. His early solo projects, including Still Standing and Going Live, demonstrate his ability to fuse kwaito, Afro-pop, and R&B elements. He has released numerous memorable singles, such as collaborations with Professor on “Lento” and “Baphi”, as well as standout tracks like “Khumbula”, “Come Duze”, and selections from his album The Gift, featuring artists including Nhlanhla Nciza, Kid X, and Vuyo Brown.
